I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a certified Focusing Oriented Therapist. I have experience working with adults and teens on a wide range of issues, such as depression and anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship issues, parenting challenges, chronic pain and illness, self esteem, emotion regulation and nightmare treatment.
My approach to counselling is experiential and relational. This means that I support people to create positive change by providing opportunities for new experiences in therapy. When we begin to experience our thoughts, feelings, memories, behaviours or relationships in a new way this can transform the way we experience ourselves, other people and the world.
My training includes a 2-year supervised certification program in focusing oriented therapy, a somatic approach that helps people connect with their felt sense in the present moment. I also have training in internal family systems, embodied experiential dreamwork, relational life therapy and AEDP. These are all experiential and relational approaches that can be used to heal trauma, discover our truth, regulate our nervous systems, improve our relationships and recover from attachment injuries.
My style is gentle, warm and collaborative, with the ability to be direct and active when needed. I have deep respect for your autonomy and agency, and welcome your feedback throughout the process of therapy.
I am registered with ICBC, CVAP and FNHA as a mental health treatment provider. If you prefer to meet by video, please contact me by email and I will let you know my availability.

Additionally, my extensive training in yoga and body-based healing allows me to incorporate somatic techniques that promote greater awareness of the body’s wisdom and facilitate the release of stored trauma and tension.
Through a blend of evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness techniques, along with an integration of holistic practices, including yoga, meditation, and breathwork, I empower clients to cultivate self-awareness, resilience, and a deeper connection to themselves.
My counselling philosophy is grounded in the principles of empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. I work collaboratively with individuals, couples and families to co-create a personalized treatment plan that honours your unique goals, and values. Together, we explore underlying patterns, identify barriers to change, and develop practical strategies for sustainable recovery and growth.
Additionally, I am a First Nations Health Authority counsellor, honouring, incorporating a deep respect for Indigenous wisdom into my practice. As well, as a Crime Assistance Program Counsellor, I provide support to victims of crime, guiding them through their journey of healing and resilience.

Heidi Mather BSc(H) Ac, R.Ac, R.TCM.P, RHN
Registered Acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbalist (TCM) and Nutritionist
Heidi has a triple licence as an Acupuncturist, TCM Herbalist and Nutritionist. She has been in practice since 2010 after graduating from the University of Portsmouth (UK) with a first class BSc Honours degree in Acupuncture. She spent the first 5 years of practice working at a GP Surgery in the UK treating pain. She found it so affective that she underwent extensive training in the use of guasha, cupping, moxibustion and electro-acupuncture to enhance her acupuncture treatments for pain relief.
As pain is often a component of chronic health conditions, she became interested in the role that diet could play as a means to address the underlying condition, whilst using acupuncture for symptom relief. Heidi trained as a Nutritional Therapist at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London (UK), and received the award for Clinical Excellence upon graduation in 2014. She uses her knowledge of nutrition from an Eastern & Western perspective, and offers dietary counselling, advice regarding supplementation and Food Sensitivity Testing for her clients, if appropriate.
After moving to Bowen Island with her family in 2015, Heidi decided to study Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine, and was awarded her provincial license as a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner (TCM.P) in 2021. The addition of herbal medicine to her treatments has enabled Heidi to make personalized medicine tailored to the unique and changing needs of her clients. She uses high quality concentrated herbal granules to be taken daily with hot water.
In early 2025 Heidi will conclude a 2 year Clinical Integration training with world renowned teacher Lonny Jarrett (USA) on the use of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Pulse Diagnosis to deepen her practice, and is simultaneously on track to complete her Doctor of TCM program at the Tzu Chi International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Vancouver.

Haylee Mathieson RN
About Haylee
Haylee is a craniosacral therapist now offering her services to adults and youths at Bowen Island Integrated Health. Her unique practice is one that reflects both holistic health as well as medical science thanks to her background in nursing. She is a practicing registered nurse specializing in critical care with over 11 years experience in front line intensive care units, emergency and recovery rooms, both in Australia and Canada. She also has extensive experience in general health, neuroscience, cardiac specialties, as well as end-of-life care. It was through this work, spending time with those experiencing the endstage manifestations of their illnesses that led Haylee to follow her interest in the preventative and spiritual aspects of health. This passion inspired her to explore holistic wellness and alternative therapies, ultimately leading the pursuit of becoming a craniosacral therapist. While she has a solid understanding of the importance of medical sciences, she recognises the necessity to balance this with practices that give respect to root causes arising from the subtle body, psyche and nervous systems being held in the mind, body, heart and soul. Her extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology paired with her sensitivity to the energetic world brings a wonderful balance to her practice. She is looking forward to contributing to the community on this beautiful island.

What is Cranioscaral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, effective, scientifically proven, hands-on approach that supports the body’s natural ability to heal. By working with the body’s craniosacral system and rhythms, this therapy helps release tension, reduce pain and promote overall well being. It is birthed out of osteopathy and is an anatomically precise modality that is approach both manually and energetically. This therapy focus’s on the cranioscaral system, comprising of the cranial and facial bones, the spine, the sacrum and there connective tissues. Cerebrospinal fluid is produced within this system and has a flushing mechanism that flows throughout the brain to clear waste products and deep into the tissues to cleanse and revitalise. This rhythm is clinically palpable and unique to each person. Throughout life, our body absorbs many stresses and traumas, be it physical, emotional, psychological or even energetic. Over time, they begin to compromise our wellbeing. This can disrupt the cerebrospinal flow. Haylee is trained to tune into this subtle yet vital pulse to detect blockages and make adjustments. This subsequently provides space for your body to use its own innate wisdom to correct itself, as it is based on the belief that the body can heal itself. CST offers a nervous system reset, by supporting and nourishing the natural rhythms of different body systems to pinpoint and address the problem source. This is a gentile light touch therapy that facilitates deep relaxation, allowing the body to unwind and release restrictions and holding patterns. When the system is feeling safe and supported, the root cause can come up and be expressed and the effects can be quite profound.

RCC, RSW
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Registered Social Worker (RSW) bringing over 10 years of experience as a mental health advocate in both non-profit and private practice environments. I’ve had a diverse career working in youth justice, mental health and substance use, crisis management and palliative care environments alongside children, youth, adults and the young at heart!
My approach to counselling is attachment focused and person-centred. I believe how we navigate and make meaning of our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and internal monologue is rooted in relationship and connection both with ourselves, and the ones we hold close. I will weave a variety of therapeutic modalities and practical tools into our session to support a collaborative process as I truly believe there is no “one size fits all” approach. When working with children (and sometimes adults too!) I will incorporate an opportunity for sensory activities, art expression and play-based emotional exploration.
I have years of experience supporting individuals of all ages who are navigating symptoms of depression, anxiety, executive dysfunction, infidelity, life transitions & grief and loss. I hold post-graduate certificates and specialized training in neuro-affirming care, first responder health and trauma & substance use. I am currently completing intensive attachment training through the Neufeld Institute to become registered as an attachment-based developmental parent consultant.
My passion and dedication to this work stems from my own lived experience and path to healing; I love what I do and feel deep gratitude to be invited into your story.
On a personal note- when I am not at work I am exploring local trails, reheating my cup of coffee and imperfectly but wholeheartedly raising my three children on beautiful Bowen Island.
